He said that Dr Naik had participated in sessions with Pandit Ravi Shankar and Shiv Sena programme when its leader Bal Thackeray was alive, on two different occasions and that the programmes were highly successful.
Mangaluru: Police have registered a case against a person for allegedly posting “derogatory and objectionable” comment on social media against Police Commissioner S Murugan regarding the ban on the entry of Islamic preacher Zakir Naik in Mangalore.
A delegation from South Karnataka Salafi Movement met Home Minister M Parameshwara in Bengaluru.
Following opposition by Bajrang Dal and other right wing Hindu organisations, Manaluru city police on Sunday denied the local Muslims necessary permission to organise renowned preacher and award winning Muslim scholar Dr Zakir Naik’s programmes in the city.
The bench, during the hearing, said that it has come to know from newspapers that the police commissioner had banned Dr Zakir from entering the city till January 7. Shafi said they were accompanied to the Home Minister by Dakshina Kannada District In-Charge Minister B Ramanath Rai and that the leaders have promised to grant permission for Dr Naik’s visit then.
However, at the same time he also banned VHP president Praveen Tagadia from entering Mangaluru and thereby attempted to restrict Togadia from attending a convention in the city to discuss various issues pertaining to cow slaughter, love jihad and attacks on Hindu activists.
