Manuel Pellegrini untroubled by Manchester City’s form on the road
Manchester City’s struggles away from home are not worrying manager Manuel Pellegrini.
Vincent Kompany is set for another month on the sidelines after Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini confirmed the defender had suffered a second degree tear in his calf.
The City captain appeared as a 61st minute substitute, with the game already won, but his return to the side lasted just nine minutes, as he limped off with a recurrence of the calf problem that kept him out of the previous eight matches. “We will see how long he will be out, but I don’t think it will be less than three-four weeks”, Pellegrini was quoted as saying by goal.com on Wednesday.
Fast forward to this term; injuries have taken its toll on City’s main man, but the 27-year-old remains the club’s top goalscorer this campaign in the Premier League, scoring seven times in 11 appearances, including FIVE against Newcastle United back in October.
‘It’s hard to say because obviously we don’t know yet what he has, hopefully it’s not too bad.’ De Bruyne told Press Association Sport.
“We hope that he can recover as soon as he can but it’s very important until we solve this to defend the way we did in this game”.
City sit third in the table halfway through the season, trailing leading duo Arsenal and Leicester City by three points.
“With the amount of points we have at this moment, it is not good to fight for the title in a normal season when you finish with a lot more points”.
He said: “I think we are returning to a very solid and consistent team, which is important”.
Ranieri said: “I think we made a very good match”.
“We’re in a good position and the two teams above us thoroughly deserve to be above us. At the end of January, first week of February, maybe we can see who will be the teams involved in the fight for the title”, he added. “As always, I said that we are not going to close the window but we are not really thinking of any special players to bring in”. “I can only say well done to our players and our fans are unbelievable, they support us and they push us”.
