Security tight in Times Square for New Year’s Eve
Toshiba Corp. will liven up a global countdown event as the official sponsor for the Times Square New Year’s Eve celebration.
Watch the New Year’s Eve Times Square Ball drop via a live video feed on your computer, smartphone, or tablet, or watch the countdown to 2016 on your local ABC or NBC TV station.
Six thousand police officers on foot and horseback will be there to make sure it all goes off without a hitch.
“It hasn’t really sunk in yet”, said Sheppard.
“People should feel safest this New Year’s Eve because we’re there”.
France deployed 11,000 police officers, military personnel and firefighters to Paris, a boost of 2,000 more than last year’s New Year’s Eve security presence. Revelers will be searched and screened with metal detectors before they’re allowed into a cordoned off area, and authorities have banned backpacks and large bags from the event.
