Gowdy endorses Rubio for president
Before Rubio spoke, South Carolina Representative Trey Gowdy endorsed the Florida Senator and encouraged those in attendance to vet candidates thoroughly before making a decision. National security and public safety are the most important issues to me. In 2013, as Republicans were still smarting after Mitt Romney’s loss and contemplating how to better reach out to Latino voters, Rubio joined with Democrats in a push for comprehensive immigration reform.
Gowdy’s announcement was rumored for days, and Donald Trump made a decision to try to get out in front of the announcement by bashing Gowdy in an appearance on Fox & Friends Sunday.

“I can’t tell you who to vote for”, Gowdy told audience members Tuesday.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who has tangled with former protégé Rubio while trying to fend off a series of attacks from Trump, entered the scrum when a pro-Bush super PAC began unloading on Rubio in a new TV ad buy in Iowa.
Gowdy chaired the panel investigating the 2012 attack on Americans in Benghazi, Libya in which four were killed, and the focus on him peaked in October when Clinton testified in an 11-hour hearing.
“We’re going to find out when happened and then I’m going to report it to you as soon as we can”, Gowdy told the questioner. Possibly. But throughout 2015, Trump was confronted with old statements that put him at odds with his adopted party, everything from musings about single-payer health care to praise (and donations) for Hillary Clinton. “Gowdy is very popular, especially in the 4th District, and he has good statewide approval”.
According to a Reuters/Ipsos survey ended on December 29, Rubio stands in third place among candidates for the Republican nomination for the November 2016 presidential election with 12 percent.
“Usually, I don’t think endorsements mean a great deal, but this is an exception”, said David Woodard, a Clemson University political science professor who has worked on Gowdy’s campaign in the past.
“I can not ignore the fact that they are Islamic”, Rubio said of Muslim radicals in the Middle East. Rubio also said that terrorists are “motivated” by their “faith”.
