Cal QB Jared Goff declares for National Football League draft
No. 23 Cal and quarterback Jared Goff are 5-0 for the first time since 2007. Neither team was ranked in preseason. He improved every season and finished this past year with career highs of 4,719 yards passing, 43 touchdown passes, 64.5 percent completion rate and a 161.3 passer rating.
Jared Goff joins his teammates in celebrating Cal’s 55-36 defeat of Air Force in Monday’s Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth. The last quarterback from California to be taken in the first round?
Goff broke dozens of records at Cal, including career touchdown passes with 96, and career passing yards at 12,220.
“As the season went on, I felt ready”, Goff said.
Since enrolling early at Cal in January 2013, Goff has been on a path to the NFL.
He enters the pre-draft process on fire with 467 yards and six touchdowns in the bowl win after throwing for 542 yards and five touchdowns in the regular season finale against Arizona State.
Goff, a starter in all 37 games over three seasons at Cal, led the Bears to an 8-5 record this season. I see him as the best but he and the other draft experts at least have him rated highly on their draft boards.
Memphis junior QB Paxton Lynch will declare for the National Football League during a press conference on Thursday, according to Ian Rapoport.
Lynch completed just 16 of 37 passes for 108 yards, no touchdowns and an interception in a 31-10 loss to Auburn in the Birmingham Bowl.
