Jayalalithaa accuses DMDK of trying to bring disrepute to AIADMK
“We had permission from the police to protest”. The protesting journalists were attacked by DMDK cadre led by Parthasarathy.
Despite the gaffe, AIADMK workers continued their protest against the leader.
Chennai: DMDK Chief Vijayakanth had a spat with reporters when he allegedly spit while replying to a question regarding next year’s Assembly elections on Monday.
Despite repeatedly taking over the matter with police, there was no motion and subsequently Parthasarathy had gone to the native police station looking for safety for his (Vijayakanth’s) home, the actor-politician stated in a press release.
Based on a complaint, Virugambakkam Police arrested 19 persons including the MLA. “When they went there, some DMDK cadres pelted stones at them”.
She also requested them to not to indulge in protests like burning effigies of Vijayakanth.
Vijayakanth stated it was the obligation of the state to offer satisfactory safety to the Leader of the Opposition, however expressed apprehensions that police was not doing the job correctly.
He said that even after Jayalalithaa’s direction that no protests should be held against him in the wake of the Tanjavur incident, his effigies had been burnt at Kanyakumari, Ariyalur and Villupuram district, and asked if this was their “discipline”. They were protesting against his alleged remarks against party supremo and chief minister Jayalalithaa.
DMDK and other opposition parties have been alleging that the AIADMK government had not delivered properly in the flood relief and rehabilitation.
