Redick leads Clippers past Pelicans, 95-89
Redick buried a three from several feet behind the arc to beat the shot clock early on Wednesday night, the Los Angeles Clippers must have had an inkling that they’d be getting a strong performance from their shooting guard. Paul then added three free throws in the final 21 seconds. Redick hit 8 3-pointers and scored 26 to lead six players in double figures.
Seeing as Rivers is shooting just 24.3 percent from three this season, that much is obvious. Jordan grabbed 20 points. Anthony Davis is averaging 23.5 points and 10.9 rebounds while Ryan Anderson is averaging 16.8 points and 6.3 rebounds. Anderson led the way with seven points in the run.
“We have games where we’re really locked down, very unselfish and everyone scores, but we’re just not consistent with that”, Gordon said. Johnson had 14 points in the Clippers win over the Washington Wizards on Dec 28, and he is averaging seven points per game over his last five. Doc Rivers rested his starters in the fourth quarter of that game while Davis was forced to leave in the third after bruising his right knee in a collision with Paul.
Cole Aldrich makes the most of his chance off the bench: He sat for 11 consecutive games during one stretch this season, the time on the bench forcing Cole Aldrich to take stock of his game.
Last season, the Pelicans were surprise contenders and made it to the playoffs as the number eight seed in the Western Conference. Chris Paul sank a pair of foul shots with 20 seconds remaining, making it a two-possession margin at 94-89.
Other than guard J.J. Redick, the Clippers had a hard time finding their rhythm.
Reddick scored 13 of Clippers’ first 15 points and had 17 in the first half, helping Los Angeles take a 50-48 lead into halftime.
X’s and O’s breakdown: Although the Pelcians have been more successful at the Smoothie King Center than on the road, they still struggled to sustain quality play throughout the game. They still have a subpar record, a negative point differential, and miles to go if they want to be ready for the postseason – but there’s a glimmer of hope resting on the shoulder of Davis and his squad.
