Odd-Even Rule in Delhi: 9 Things You Need to Know
The ambitious Odd-even formula of Arvind Kejriwal led AAP government to curb pollution level in Delhi kicks off on Friday. “We shall overcome”, he tweeted.
From January 1 only cars with odd-numbered licence plates will be allowed on the roads on odd-numbered dates and those with even-numbered plates on the other days, except on Sundays when the rule does not apply.

Inorder to ensure strict implementation of the scheme, 200 teams of Delhi Traffic Police, 66 enforcement teams of transport department and 40 teams of sub-divisional magistrates have been deployed.
Odd-even rule in Delhi: As the clock ticked eight, the odd- even vehicular restriction policy of the Delhi government came into effect today with thousands of volunteers taking to the streets to assist traffic police in enforcing the pilot plan that will stay in force in the national capital till January 15.
During the programme “Pollution Free Delhi”, a student asked Mr. Kejriwal about the probability of people buying two cars to evade the scheme. The directions were issued under Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1981 that empowers the Centre to take action against erring officials after getting a non-compliance note from the states.
Delhi Transport Corporation has formed 45 teams to monitor its fleet of buses. They will give roses to those violating the odd-even rule, make them aware about the restriction and request them to go back home. Similarly, Delhi Metro Rail has constituted 29 teams to monitor the frequency and operations of metro trains during the fortnight. Similarly, the Even numbered non-transport four wheeled vehicles (motor cars etc.) would be allowed to park on even dates only. “Special buses will be plied from Rohini to Noida, Uttam Nagar to Noida, Dwarka to Noida and Punjabi Bagh to Noida, Rohini to Gurgaon, Nehru Place to cater to commuters”, the minister said.
