Man CIty captain Kompany faces another month out
Leicester City captain Wes Morgan has insisted that the team need to take “each game at a time” after they kept themselves in contention for the Premier League title by holding Manchester City to a goalless draw.
City’s defence has looked particularly vulnerable with Kompany absent, with neither Nicolas Otamendi and Eliaquim Mangala providing convincing arguments that they can cope without their captain.
It is the club’s worst run on the road since 2011 but thanks to their home form – City have won eight of their 10 games at the Etihad, losing twice – they head into 2016 third in the table and just three points behind leaders Arsenal and second-placed Leicester.
However, the expensive and often criticised central defensive pairing produced an accomplished display at the King Power Stadium, keeping Leicester’s top scorer Jamie Vardy quiet for much of the game, while the Foxes’ other danger man Riyad Mahrez was also reduced to a bit-part role.
“We didn’t come here to try to draw it. We didn’t allow them to create options”.
The Sky Blues opened this season’s campaign with five successive league wins till mid-September, scoring 11 goals in those games and conceding none. We know, because we know him and after all this year he needs two or three games to return to his normal performance.
Ranieri said: “He made a fantastic job”.
“Both of them are performing very well but I don’t think they can do it if the whole team are not having a good performance”, the former Real Madrid manager said. The most important thing is to feel, at the end of the season, that we have given absolutely everything to be successful.
“I wanted to see a reaction from the Liverpool game and it was good”, the Italian told reporters. If you ask me are we happy so far?
“We are mature enough and we have the requested quality to fight and compete”. “Bournemouth press well and they played very well at Arsenal”.
“It is no surprise to me how consistent they have been and how hard they are to play against”.
