Colts owner Jim Irsay says ‘no decision’ made on Chuck Pagano
A source tells him that things are “toxic” between head coach Chuck Pagano and general manager Ryan Grigson.
Second, Kravitz reports that Grigson insisted on the use of punt returner Josh Cribbs past year, against the desires of Pagano and several members of his staff.
It’s hard to blame Pagano completely for the Colts’ Super Bowl aspirations being dashed this season. Preparing to play the Mariota-less Tennessee Titans, the Colts aim to overcome a bevy of quarterback issues in order to increase their improbable odds for a playoff bid. It would mean that Grigson may stay longer than Chuck Pagano but that doesn’t mean that his job status is secure.
Grigson will not return if the new coach has his own general manager preference, sources tell Wells.
Oh yeah, and if all that weren’t enough, offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton reportedly was forced onto Pagano. He should be available Friday.
Pagano was not available Thursday after practice and his agent did not respond to an email for comment. “They both have 25, 30 snaps under their belt and that’s the body of work we have right now”.
“I don’t know”, Pagano said. Well, nine things have to happen and that includes the Colts posting a win at home on Sunday against AFC South rival Tennessee.
THE LONG GOODBYES? Indy’s swoon could lead to roster changes, too.
And that’s one of the knocks on Pagano, that his teams feasted on inferior division foes but couldn’t measure up against the elite teams. “We didn’t do it last week, we’ve got to do it this week”. “Once they get us in third down, then they’re going to send the kitchen sink at us”. Hasselbeck, cornerback Greg Toler and kicker Adam Vinatieri all having expiring contracts. “I think winning the lottery is way harder to do than to have nine games fall your way”.
It just seems like it would be a recipe for disaster as the cons definitely outweigh the pros. Considering that quarterback Andrew Luck had one of the worst seasons of his career due to miscues and injuries, he would regress under any gimmicky kind of offense that Kelly would want to install. “I love it”, he said.
“Every time we don the ‘shoe on the side of our helmet and we line up to play, we play to win”. It started a movement known as “CHUCKSTRONG” in the Colts community, and propelled the Colts forward in their first season under Luck.
“What gives me (hope) is my kidney has healed as we’ve gone on”, Luck said. “The culture here now is the worst I’ve ever seen it”, a source said, pointing to the number of times Colts players have been arrested in the past year or two. Matt Hasselbeck completed 8 of 15 passes for 99 yards and Charlie Whitehurst threw for 78 yards in 9 of 14 passes. Linebackers Sio Moore (knee), Jerrell Freeman (hamstring) and Erik Walden (foot), safeties Winston Guy (hamstring/shoulder) and Mike Adams (ankle), receiver T.Y. Hilton (calf), tight end Jack Doyle (toe), and cornerback Darius Butler (hip/knee) were all limited.
