TCU QB Trevone Boykin to Miss Bowl Game After Arrest
West Mesquite grad and TCU starting quarterback Trevone Boykin took to social media late today to issue an apology for his early morning arrest in San Antonio.
At a Thursday morning news conference, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus confirmed reports that TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin, 22, and some teammates were in an establishment named Pat O’Brien’s just before 2 a.m. when some patrons recognized the quarterback and began to trash-talk.
Boykin faces charges of assault of a public official, resisting arrest and public intoxication, according to the station.
At West Mesquite, Boykin accounted for more than 9,000 yards of total offense in three years at West Mesquite – throwing for 5,762 and 51 touchdowns while completing 56.8 percent of his passes and running for another 3,328 and 56 touchdowns, averaging 7.8 yards per carry. “I wish I could be there, but I won’t because of my mistake that I have no one to blame but myself”. San Antonio bicycle police officers arrived at the scene and tried to stop the fight with the help of bar bouncers.
The game would have been the last for Boykin, who shattered school passing records once held by Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton.
“Clearly this was not an appropriate way to act”, McManus said of Boykin.
Bram Kohlhausen figures to start in Boykin’s place versus the Ducks at the Alamodome to close out TCU’s season. The arrest is sure to hurt Boykin’s prospects in the upcoming National Football League draft. CBS Sports reported that scouts weren’t keen on him because of his “lack of size, mechanics and accuracy”.
Boykin said that he’d suspended Boykin and receiver Preston Miller from the game for violation of team rules. Several officers then took Boykin to the ground. TCU is playing OR on Saturday in the Valero Alamo Bowl in San Antonio. “Mr. Boykin was finally subdued after being threatened with a Taser”.
Texas Christian University quarterback Trevone Boykin is being questioned in connection with an assault on a peace officer overnight Thursday, according to police.
Patterson did not speak to reporters Thursday, but co-offensive coordinator Doug Meacham said Boykin was in his hotel room when the team did checks Wednesday night.
The school said in a statement that they are aware of the situation and will “closely monitor” it and “evaluate additional details as they become available”.
