TCU quarterback faces assault on peace officer charges — SAPD
The game would have been the last for Boykin, who shattered school passing records once held by Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton.
“Words can’t describe how sorry I am”, he began.
SAN ANTONIO – TCU quarterback and West Mesquite High School graduate Trevone Boykin has been charged with felony assault of a police officer after getting into a fight at a bar.
The 22-year-old Boykin was swiftly suspended for Saturday’s Alamo Bowl against No. 15 OR, and later apologized on Twitter.
TCU released a statement indicating it’s aware of the situation and gathering information.
TCU suspended Boykin following the arrest in advance of the Alamo Bowl on Saturday. Things started to get heated when Boykin became upset and started fighting outside of the River Walk bar. In the melee, Boykin struck a bar employee.
Responding patrol officers said he ended up punching a bicycle cop. Several officers then wrestled him to the ground.
Charges have been filed against Boykin for the felony assault of an officer.
McManus said the officer had a swollen face, bruises and an abrasion. The crime scene investigative team photographed the officer’s injuries, and he was treated by emergency medical personnel.
“Clearly this was not an appropriate way to act”, McManus said of Boykin.
A manager at Pat O’Brien’s told ESPN’s Max Olson that security footage already has been turned over to police. He wants to play quarterback in the National Football League, but many analysts see him as a slot receiver who would be drafted in the later rounds. He’s a good person too.
Senior Bram Kolhausen will likely be the Frogs starter with freshman Foster Sawyer backing him up.
– There was some jaw-jacking going on in the bar between Mr. Boykin and patrons involving the game. You hate to see that happen. “Trevone means a lot to me and my family”, Cumbie said.
Boykin completed 65 percent of his passes this season for 3,575 yards and 31 touchdowns to just 10 interceptions.
One year later, Boykin finds himself in trouble with the law and on the bench for the team’s season finale.
