Man crushed to death by falling elevator in New York City
Police say the accident happened around midnight Thursday in a building on Broome Street on Manhattan’s Lower East Side.
“Basically there was a woman in the elevator and her son”.
He added that the man pushed Ms Sanchez, 43, to safety after she tried to enter the lift.
“It scared me, like a shock”, she said. The elevator trapped him between the second and third floors.
“She was crying and saying, ‘I want my boy, ‘” Peguero said of the man’s girlfriend.
The building has received warnings in the past about elevator faults. I tried to pull him up but he said “leave me here”‘. The victim sustained multiple traumas from the moving elevator and was pronounced dead at New York Downtown Hospital.
The Daily News reported that the building has three active violations with the Buildings Department, all for elevator defects.
The investigation into the death is ongoing, according to the NYPD, and the medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death.
