TCU QB Boykin arrested after bar fight in San Antonio
Word spread fast about TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin’s arrest Thursday.
San Antonio Police Chief William McManus confirmed during an afternoon press gathering that Boykin struck the officer but McManus said it isn’t known whether Boykin was trying to hit the officer or swinging at another person.
TCU wide receiver Preston Miller was also suspended for the bowl game for what coach Gary Patterson said was an unspecified violation of team rules.
Texas Christian University’s quarterback, Trevone Boykin, was arrested two days before he was set to play in the Alamo Bowl.
TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin was arrested and accused of assaulting a patrol officer following a fight at Pat O’Brien’s in San Antonio early Thursday morning. As a result, the senior was suspended for TCU’s matchup with OR in the Alamo Bowl.
Boykin was charged with assaulting a public servant, a third-degree felony.
“We are aware of the situation last night and are gathering information”, TCU said in a statement. After leaving the bar, the fight continued out on the street as bouncers and San Antonio bicycle police attempted to break it up.
McManus said the officer allegedly struck by Boykin was treated for a swollen face and bruised but was otherwise OK.
Boykin was arrested early Thursday morning in San Antonio.
Boykin allegedly hit the officer in the face and wouldn’t stop struggling with police until he was threatened with a taser.
What makes the incident even more freaky is that according to ESPN’s Jack Trotter, Boykin was seen in his hotel room by TCU coaches during the team’s midnight curfew check. “I truly let down my family, teammates and the TCU and Fort Worth communities who have supported me so much”, Boykin wrote. “Members of his group stated they would get him back to the hotel they were staying at”.
“We don’t know whether he was swinging at the officer or whether he was swinging at somebody behind him”, McManus said. “He was heckled and he responded to it”. He was being heckled regarding the game. According to that NBC 5 report, Boykin was taken to the ground by multiple officers. Meacham and his fellow co-coordinator, Sonny Cumbie, said they’re leaning toward starting senior Bram Kohlhausen over redshirt freshman Foster Sawyer against OR but have yet to make a final decision. He had 3,574 yards passing and 31 touchdowns.
