Jeb Bush vows Washington culture shake-up
On Monday, Bush said Floridians called their capital “Mount Tallahassee” before he took over as governor, because its leaders held themselves apart from their constituents.
US Republican presidential hopeful Jeb Bush vowed on 20 July to cut government spending and more tightly limit lawmakers’ connections with lobbyists if he reaches the White House, part of an attempt to separate himself from a large pack of Republican rivals.
“Bush’s talk of government reform is nothing but thin air”, said Christina Freundlich, spokesperson for the Democratic National Committee, in a statement. Bush’s next stops will be in New Hampshire and Iowa.
Someone needs to tell him that when kids rebel against their parents and their boring jobs, they usually aren’t simultaneously interviewing for the same gig.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush, who pursued an aggressive agenda when he was Florida’s governor for eight years, returns to the state capital on Monday where he plans to outline his top domestic priorities if elected. The reserves cited by Bush also include money that the state won in a landmark settlement reached with the nation’s tobacco companies prior to his election.
“We need to help politicians to rediscover life outside of Washington DC, which – who knows? – might even be a pleasant surprise for them”, he said.
Bush discussed how he would remedy “the overspending, the overreaching, the arrogance, the sheer incompetence” of Washington, D.C. (providing, to name a few, IRS scandals and the problematic roll-out of Obamacare as examples of such), because “we did it here in Tallahassee”, Bush said. “But a president should never accept them, and I will not”.
The 62-year-old Bush – aiming to be the third president from his family after his father and brother – also promised to rein in Washington’s lucrative lobbying business, which he said had grown by 45 percent in the past decade. Turnbull III Florida State Conference Center said framing a vision was always one of Bush’s strong points. “It’s useful for separating himself from the other candidates, in particular his fellow Floridian, Senator Marco Rubio“.
The video, however, does not note that Florida requires the state to pass a balanced budget. His administration approved AT&T’s telephone rate increases and its merger with BellSouth, a medical malpractice bill benefiting the Florida Hospital Association, and the acquisition of swampland from Land South Hunters – all organizations represented by the Southern Strategy Group.
Trump has especially latched on to attacking Bush, accusing the candidate of “doing favors” for donors and lobbyists in exchange for his impressive fundraising figures.

He said he supported a federal balanced budget amendment to limit spending and would institute a rule to hire just one new federal worker for every three who leave.
