Gunmen attack air force base in India
Police in northern India say gunmen have attacked an air force base in Punjab state and are exchanging fire with security forces. Sources say the attackers were asked to destroy assets at the air base. The terrorists, believed to be 4-5 in number, launched the attack at the base in the wee hours.
Police said the vehicle, which the terrorists abandoned later, was recovered near Dhira village, in Bihar.
Heavy firing could be heard from the IAF station area till 7.30 am.
NSG team and Garud Commando Force are engaged in the gunbattle and the terrorists have been restrained to the domestic area of the Air Force Station. 2 terrorists killed until now.
On Friday, a statewide alert was issued by the Punjab Police, and the Army’s units in Pathankot as well as the police in Jammu are also monitoring the situation.
A senior Punjab police officer, his friend, and one of his junior colleagues were abducted by five men in army fatigues and beaten up before being released near Pathankot. Yesterday, five suspected militants abducted an SP and two others and thrashed them before dumping them from vehicle. The bridge is barely 15 km from the India-Pakistan border.
The youth then drove the auto towards Pathankot while thrashing the three of them in the vehicle.
