Texas Tech beats Richmond 85-70 for 9th straight win
LSU head coach Les Miles, center, celebrates with defensive tackle Christian LaCouture (91) and cornerback Tre’Davious White (18) after defeating Texas Tech in the Texas Bowl NCAA football game Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, in Houston.
He set an individual scoring record of 30 points in the Texas Bowl Tuesday by rushing for 212 yards and four touchdowns and catching a 44-yard scoring strike in a 56-27 win over Texas Tech. Patrick Mahomes II threw for 370 yards and four TDs for the 7-6 Red Raiders, capping his season with over 4,600 yards and 32 touchdown passes.
Fournette rushed for two touchdowns and Brandon Harris ran for a third to close out the quarter and put the game on ice. Mahomes, who finished 14 of 26 for 173 yards with two touchdowns in the first half, found Grant from three yards out for the touchdown.
Fournette’s second rushing touchdown, seven minutes into the second half with LSU’s lead reduced to a single point, was one of his easiest of the season. – Penalties: LSU ten for 86 yards – Texas Tech five for 53 yards.
Weakened by the targeting ejection of secondary anchor Weston Steelhammer on Air Force’s third defensive play, the Falcons (8-6) lost for the fourth time in five Armed Forces appearances since 2007. “Instead of being 28-23 or 28-27, it was 35-20”. He also caught a touchdown in the first half, helping the Tigers overcome a big performance from Texas Tech quarterback Pat Mahomes.
Fournette’s backup, Derrius Guice, looks capable of piling up yards as well.
LSU led 21-13 at halftime. Forget the fact that Texas Tech was driving to even the score (actually to pull to within one point if Kingsbury did not go for two) late in the third when an unfortunate bounce off a Mahomes incompletion turned into the game-changing interception at the goal line.
The No. 20 Tigers (9-3) racked up 638 yards of total offense against the overmatched Raiders defense.
Texas Tech knew it would have its hands full with Fournette entering Tuesday’s Texas Bowl. Scary enough for future LSU opponents, Fournette still has time to rack up more scores and yards against teams, given his multiple years of eligibility. He rushed for four touchdowns and averaged 7.3 yards per carry, making some wonder if he really is human.
After a dominating 56-27 victory over the Red Raiders, that cynical fan base and talks of his future can be put on hold at least for the next eight months. The Longhorns charged back to take a 45-44 lead on a basket by junior forward Shaquille Cleare, but the Huskies answered with an 8-2 run to go up 52-47. T.J. Cline ended the game with 14 points. Harris was inconsistent and struggled with accuracy, particularly during LSU’s losses, but accounted for a lot of offense in the bowl game. He finished with 379 passing yards, 1 interception and 4 touchdowns. “I thought it was a great decision he made to do that”. “I think we felt tonight that his energy from the sidelines was probably the difference”. “It was exactly what we needed”.
“Sometimes during the summer, they would usually have a lab that they could not find a teacher for”, he said, “and I would go out there and teach part-time”.
