Flower-decked floats, marching bands move through Pasadena as Rose Parade begins

Numerous winners also won top Rose Parade honors in 2015.

Both the Tournament of Roses and the National Park Service aim to preserve history, connect people through real-life experiences and engage the public in new adventures.

The Grand Marshal of 2016 Rose Parade is no other than filmmaker Ken Burns.

The Rose Parade has a start time of 11 a.m. ET (8 a.m. PT) and will take place for approximately two hours.

This year’s Rose Parade will be set against a backdrop of heightened security.

“Recent events at home and overseas have put added attention on the safety efforts at the annual Rose Parade and Rose Bowl game”, said Pasadena Assistant City Manager Steve Mermell, referring to mass shootings in Paris and San Bernardino.

Burns, who waved to the crowd with his family from an antique convertible, said he has been a fan of the parade since he was a child, though he has never attended in person.

Mark Selby, deputy special agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigations in Los Angeles and the federal coordinator for the Rose Parade and security, said the plan involved unprecedented resources and technologies.

Just prior to the ending of the parade, up to five skywriting planes flew overhead and spelled out a number of phrases expressing opposition to U.S. Presidential candidate Donald Trump, including “America is great”.

Before today’s Rose Bowl game featuring the Iowa Hawkeyes against the Stanford Cardinal, we prepare for the first big event of the new year – the Rose Parade 2016. The 2016 Rose Parade will help shine light on the centennial celebration of our nation’s national parks.

The Rose Parade and Rose Bowl’s officials website described the “White Suiters”, volunteers wearing distinctive white uniforms.

Reality television fans will get another familiar sight. It will depict a romantic fantasy adventure date on an exotic tropical island. The Tournament of Roses also has a full list of broadcast partners that can be found here.

The parade was to consist of 44 floats, 19 equestrian groups and 19 marching bands.
