Johnny Manziel has concussion symptoms, could miss finale
Browns starting quarterback Johnny Manziel is being treated for concussion-like symptoms, Head Coach Mike Pettine said Wednesday.
The last time Cleveland quarterback Johnny Manziel showed up in an internet video, Browns’ coach Mike Pettine talked about “harsh” repercussions if it happened again.
The Cleveland Browns (3-12) are coming from a 17-13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
The former Heisman Trophy victor also rushed for 230 yards on 37 carries, including a team quarterback-record 108 yards against the Chiefs, but continues to be a social media staple because of his party lifestyle. But as far as the judgment of it getting out there, I question that. Wide receiver Terrelle Pryor will be the emergency third quarterback at FirstEnergy Stadium. If Pettine is let go by owner Jimmy Haslam, Cleveland will begin searching for its eighth coach since 1999.
Johnny Manziel has officially been ruled out as quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Manziel has gotten only eight starts in two years to prove himself, but he’s partially to blame for that between his lackluster preparation and off-field antics that have not made the Browns happy.
The coaching staff has butted heads with Farmer, and Pettine recently said the building wasn’t unified and that other parts of the organization needed to look in the mirror. A similar video of Manziel surfaced Sunday night, and Pettine said he has not yet had the opportunity to discuss it with Manziel, but said the circumstances surrounding this video differ from the one that got Manziel demoted earlier in the season. In the eyes of Pettine, the Browns have enough to evaluate Manziel even though he only played in nine games. Every quarterback wants the same gaps in pass rush that Manziel tends to exploit, Heyward said. “I think if you want to talk about being successful, if you ask the players, you feel like if you’re headed in the right direction that time is something that you need”.
If Manziel has a concussion, he will have to enter the NFL’s protocol on head injuries and will sit out the final game. He passed for a career-high 372 yards against them last month before he was benched two games by Pettine for his behavior during the teams bye week.
“I’m competitive – just like our players, we want them to be competitive, prideful”.
It was reported Wednesday night that Manziel won’t play Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers and it’s not looking good for Moore, Williams and Winston as well.
