White House delays imposing new sanctions on Iran
The mooted financial penalties on companies and individuals in Iran, Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates, for apparent links to Tehran’s missile programme, highlighted worsening US-Iran relations.
President Rouhani’s remarks followed the US Treasury Department’s recent announcement that it was considering sanctions against a number of Iranian and global individuals and agencies for their alleged involvement in developing Iran’s ballistic missile programme.
Ballistic missile tests by Iran are banned under resolution 1929, which dates from 2010 and remains valid until the July nuclear deal between Iran and world powers goes into effect.
“I fear that pressure from our “partners”-or threats from the Iranian government that it will walk away from the deal or threaten the U.S.in other ways-have caused the administration to rethink imposing sanctions for Iran’s violations of the testing ban”, said Sen”.
According to the Journal, the sanctions would prohibit U.S. or foreign nationals from conducting business with targeted companies. Then on Saturday, the Iranian navy harassed a USA aircraft carrier and a French frigate in the Strait of Hormuz, launching rockets that passed within 1,500 yards of the USS Harry S. Truman.
Defence Minister Hossein Dehqan said Iran would boost its missile program and had never agreed to restrictions on it. Iran is “called upon” to stop work for eight years on ballistic missiles capable of delivering a nuclear weapon.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has ordered a speed-up in the production of defense missiles.
Iran condemned the report, saying it has a right to develop missiles as long as they are not created to carry nuclear warheads.
As a result, the U.S.is prepared to issue fresh sanctions against the nation.
But they said Russian Federation and China, which have opposed the sanctions on Iran’s missile program, might block any such actions.
Iran’s Ministry of Defense, as well, would have the responsibility to organize new planning for development of country’s missile power using all capabilities and facilities if USA repeats such “wrong and interventionist” measures.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, who has the final say on all matters of the state, has made it clear that Iran would consider any new sanctions a breach of the JCPOA.
“The publication of such false news under the present circumstances is akin to psychological warfare”, Sharif said.
But Iran says that any new sanctions imposed would violate the agreement which the country this week took its first major step toward implementing.
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said the shipment “more than triples our previous 2-3 month breakout timeline” for Iran to make one nuclear weapon. Raines said the firing came 23 minutes after Iranians announced a live fire exercise over maritime radio.
