Las Vegas Strip Crash Driver High on Weed
The woman police said intentionally drove onto a crowded Strip sidewalk, killing a woman and injuring dozens of people, tested positive for marijuana, the Clark County district attorney’s office said Wednesday morning.
Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson on Wednesday announced the results of Holloway’s toxicology tests, which found that the level of active marijuana in her blood at the time of the crash was 3.5 ng/mL.
Holloway, who police said had her 3-year-old daughter with her in the vehicle, has also been charged with child abuse or neglect and leaving the scene of a collision.
Holloway then backed up and allegedly drove back into the crowd a second time as several people jumped onto her front window in an attempt to stop her. The 23.6 nanograms per milliliter of marijuana metabolites in her system were above the 5-nanogram state limit.
Holloway’s daughter was not injured and has been taken into protective custody.
Holloway, who legally changed her name to Paris Paradise Morton in October, had turned her life around after a troubled childhood, according to a 2012 video by the Portland Opportunities Industrialization Center, which helps at-risk youth with education and career training.
Holloway remains jailed on suicide watch pending a January 20 court date.
Shortly after the incident, Holloway was arrested and charged with murder with the use of a deadly weapon.
Holloway has made one court appearance and hasn’t been asked to enter a plea, but Abood and Coffee say they expect her to plead not guilty. Meanwhile, prosecutors said that they will look toward filing additional charges as police officials interview more witnesses in the case.
