New Child Benefit Payments Arrive Today
For the 3.8 million families who signed up for UCCB will receive some big cheques on Monday, July 20 as the payments are retroactive to January 1, 2015.
The Harper government is defending its increased universal child care benefits as the Opposition accuses the Conservatives of trying to buy votes ahead of the October 19th election.
Many Canadians are about to receive the largest one-time benefit payment in federal history. And the benefit will be expanded to include children aged 6-17, providing parents with $60 per child per month for that age range. He says it’s just a result of the Conservatives balancing the budget.
A news release from the Liberal party says the payments are unfair to the middle class and benefit the people who need it the least.
Parents are tweeting back, saying they appreciate the cash and the choice it gives them to raise their kids as they see fit.
Since 2006, the government has handed out monthly payments of $100 for every child in Canada under age six. “It is a challenge to make ends meet”, she said. According to the analysis, numerous ridings receiving the biggest cheques are in suburban Alberta, and ridings surrounding Toronto.
