TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin apologizes for ‘very poor decision’

The 2015 season started out with high hopes for TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin. Boykin was charged with felony assault and has been suspended for Saturday’s Alamo Bowl against Oregon.

San Antonio Police spokesman Sgt. Jesse Salame said Boykin is being held on $5,000 bond.

“His teammates had tried to take him back to the hotel and he broke away from them and came back”, McMannus said. Several officers then took Boykin to the ground.

The skirmish was set off by Boykin being heckled in the bar about the upcoming game, McManus said. Instead of hitting the patrons, Boykin allegedly accidentally struck a bar employee.

Boykin was arrested early Thursday morning for public intoxication, resisting arrest and assault on a public servant, following a bar fight in San Antonio.

But Boykin’s absence shouldn’t mean this game will turn into a snoozer.

The unsavory nightlife episode and subsequent suspension mark a sad end to an otherwise excellent career for Boykin.

Wide receiver Preston Miller was also suspended.

“We are disappointed in their actions”, Patterson said in a statement.

Boykin finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting as a junior in 2014 and went into this season considered one of the front-runners for the award.
