Browns QB Johnny Manziel being evaluated for concussion
Manziel’s rookie year was an utter disaster, but the newfound seriousness with which he took to this past offseason at least gave the Browns hope he may be someone they could build around.
“I’m competitive”, Pettine said.
“I constantly preach to the players, worry about things you have control over”, he said. “But there are problems there that we’ll talk as we’re headed to the offseason”, Pettine said. Jerod Cherry, a 3-time Super Bowl champ and now Cleveland Sports radio host thinks Manziel should play through his concussion. Playing quarterback in this league is a lifestyle.
“It is tremendously important, not only for on the field but I think your teammates need to see you doing the right thing as well”, DeFilippo said. “That’s part of the position”. Like I said, I think he has bought into what Kevin (O’Connell) and I are telling him.
Pettine could be down to his final days as Cleveland’s coach.
The last time Cleveland quarterback Johnny Manziel showed up in an internet video, Browns’ coach Mike Pettine talked about “harsh” repercussions if it happened again. Manziel, who went 2-4 as a starter this season, had promised Cleveland coaches he would not be a distraction while the team was off and then he appeared in a video partying in Texas.
“Right now if nothing changes it’s looking like it’ll likely be Austin Davis”, the Browns head coach said.
“Talking to our medical people, you’ve got to be smart, look out for our players’ best interest”. Steelers linebacker Jarvis Jones delivered a borderline-dirty hit to his head, giving “Hawk” his second concussion in a four-week span. It varies in scope and the amount of it, but I don’t see it that way. He is making $10 million this season and $8 million each of the next three years. “This is what I do”. “I love what I do”. Why would I do that now?
Manziel is the 14th Browns player to be diagnosed with a concussion since the start of training camp.
Dansby and Thomas are expected to play Sunday against Pittsburgh, but are being held out for precautionary reasons. And what that decision ends up being is, how I control it is how I prepare the team each week.
But now that it’s over, the Browns want him to concentrate on his off-field issues.
“If you ask me and my two cents, stability is the answer, ” O’Neil said.
The Browns close out the year Sunday against the Steelers at FirstEnergy Stadium.
The Browns also signed Pat Devlin to be Davis’ backup. “They have a lot to play for so we know they’re going to come in and play hard”.
