Magnitude 4.9 quake hits near Victoria, felt across Metro Vancouver

Earthquakes Canada says there have been no reports of damage, and “none would be expected”.
There are also ongoing discrepancies as to the size of the quake, with the U.S. Geological Survey ranking it a magnitude 4.8, rather than the 4.3 from Earthquakes Canada.
“The couch just started shaking and it scared the crap out of me”, Paquette said over the phone.
There were no immediate reports of damages or injuries, however.
In Vancouver, TransLink shut down two if its SkyTrain lines until staff could ensure guideways were safe. Victoria residents reported the quake lasted up to 10 seconds. Many of those confused people instantly took to social media to share their experiences of the tremor.
City of Vancouver officials tweeted that there were “no known reports of significant #earthquake damage”.
Tuesday’s early-morning quake was followed by several three-point aftershocks all Tuesday afternoon and evening.
Bird encouraged anyone who felt the natural disaster to use the “did you feel it” button on the agency’s website at earthquakescanada.ca.
Homes shook, pictures fell off walls and chandeliers swayed as the quake struck about 20 minutes before midnight Tuesday, startling people across Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley and Vancouver Island.
