Florida woman fatally shoots daughter mistaken for intruder
The homeowner fired one round at the intruder, who was later identified as her daughter, according to police.
Awoken from an abrupt noise, the woman reached for a.38-caliber pistol from an unknown location and fired at who she believed was a quickly approaching intruder, officials said. Roberts said her daughter – Ashley Doby – had been visiting from North Carolina and did not live in the home, The Orlando Sentinel reported.
Ashley Doby was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to the gunshot wound to the chest.
St. Cloud police said the homeowner’s story is consistent with physical evidence.

“The incident… involved the mother and daughter and did not involve a SCPD Officer”, Roberts said.
In a recording of the 911 call provided by police, the husband tells a dispatcher that his daughter has a pacemaker and heart problems.
The identities of the shooter and victim will not be released per Florida statute as a law enforcement officer resides in the home where the incident occurred.
Police are considering the shooting accidental. The mother also was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police said the shooting appears to be accidental, but the investigation is ongoing.
The chief told WESH 2 News he consulted with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. “It’s usually very quiet”. He is now on administrative leave for family medical reasons.
This is not the first time in Central Florida where a relative has been mistaken as an intruder in a fatal shooting.
