Bruins embarrassed by Canadiens in outdoor Winter Classic
The Canadiens had beaten Boston seven straight times before a Bruins victory on December 9, but Montreal had lost 11 of 13 heading into the New Year’s Day game.
This game featured several players from MA and these players represented themselves well in the game.
“We couldn’t seem to find our game”, said Bruins coach Claude Julien.
“I think about his dad every time he made a save and probably the expression on his face when he’s watching”, Pacioretty said after the win. Nothing can replace the best goalie in the world, but Gallagher’s return makes the Canadiens a deeper team, and it provides much-needed offensive firepower that can help make up for any goaltending issues the team might deal with in Price’s absence. “So that the fact that we get Gally back, we’re able to get that chemistry with even, not only the Plekanec line but with David Desharnais’ line and [Alex Galchenyuk’s], they’re doing some good things, too”.
David Desharnais, as he had in a 4-2 win at Boston on October 10, opened the scoring Friday outdoors at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., to snap a 23-game goal drought.
An American flag is unfurled on the ice during prior to the game.
The entire Winter Classic experience went just about perfectly for Condon, but if there was one negative it might be that he didn’t get to actually meet Brady himself.
The Montreal Canadiens put in a dominant performance to record a 5-1 win over the Boston Bruins in the NHL Winter Classic in Foxboro, Massachusetts.
The NHL Bruins and NBA Celtics filled the Boston Garden rafters with championship banners. The game ended, a 5-1 decision that gave Montreal the lead in the Atlantic Division.
The women’s game was followed by a matchup of National Hockey League old-timers from the Bruins and Canadiens.
Fans booed the Canadiens alumni, but mostly good-naturedly, and the style of play was more reminiscent of a no-defense All-Star game than one of the bone-crunching battles the teams have waged through their history. Originally the team wore brown, in 2016 it’s black, they simply took their modern colour scheme and applied it to the old uniform. At the end of the first period the Canadians outshot the Bruins 14-3.
“When you’ve got a big game like that – it was a big game in the standings for us – but you’ve got to be ready to go and we came out flat and they took advantage of it”, said Boston forward Jimmy Hayes.
Simple Plan performed during the second intermission. Though they didn’t score on either of those power plays they took some momentum into the third period and finally got on the board.
Out-shot 14-3 in the first period, Boston didn’t beat Mike Condon until 3:56 of the third period, when Matt Beleskey tipped home an Adam McQuaid point shot. Before people could settle in after the pregame festivities, the Canadiens were up 1-0.
Regardless of the venue, the Montreal Canadiens just don’t lose in the Boston area.
