Israel searches for gunman who killed 2 in Tel Aviv attack
A gunman opened fire at a popular bar in the central Israeli city, killing two and wounding at least three others before fleei… “Both directions are being investigated”.
Police said the attack took place at 130 Dizenghof Street.
After the shooting, Tel Aviv turned into a city under siege as the police searched for their suspect.
The station showed video of the shooting, obtained from a shop near the bar. Police have not confirmed witness accounts about what the attacker was wearing.
Two of the people were reported to be in severe condition and five had less severe injuries, with all seven treated at the scene and taken to the hospital.
The two victims have been identified as Alon Bakal, 26, who was a manager at the bar targeted, and Shimon Ruimi, 30. Of course, anyone old enough to remember the 1990’s and 2001-2003 knows that Tel Aviv has been a target before.
Units are now searching the Tel Aviv area for the suspect. “5 injured”, Superintendent Micky Rosenfeld wrote on Twitter.
“I saw people running shouting, ‘Terrorist, terrorist!'” Pinto said in a telephone interview with CNN. “I went to the police and assisted security services”.
Mr Pinto said the pub had opened “just a few months ago”.
Seventeen of the dead Palestinians were from Hebron, three from the area of Ramallah, two from Jenin and one from Nablus, a spokesperson for the army told Xinhua.
The gunman fled the scene and remains at large. The man described the shooter as “traumatized” after a cousin was killed by police in 2006, and who had served time in Israeli prison after allegedly grabbing an officer’s gun.
In a recording released a week ago and attributed to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the secretive leader of the IS jihadist group pledged to attack Israel.
Rockets fired by Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, meanwhile, hit southern Israel Friday without causing any casualties or damage, the army said.
