Veteran CPI leader AB Bardhan dead
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on Twitter, saying: “Will always remember Shri A B Bardhan as a passionate Communist, fully committed to his ideology & principles”. Earlier on Saturday, the CPI described his condition as “critical”.
Veteran Communist Party of India (CPI) leader A.B. Bardhan died at a hospital here on Saturday, a doctor said.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said he lost a guide in Bardhan’s demise who fought for the cause of the common man irrespective of the political differences.
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee tweeted: Saddened at the passing of veteran politician AB Bardhan.
Bardhan was admitted to G. B. Pant hospital here after he suffered paralytic stroke last month. “My condolences to his grieving family”, Rajnath tweeted.
Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee President V M Sudheeran said Bardhan played a vital role in strengthening and building up the communist movement in the country. He was undergoing treatment after tests detected a blood clot in his brain. Later, he moved to Delhi politics and became the General Secretary of the CPI in 1996.
Senior Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Ardhendu Bhushan Bardhan, who steered the party during the turbulent period of coalition politics at national level in 1990s, died in New Delhi tonight after prolonged illness.
