Woman held in Vegas crash had pot in her system
The report shows that Holloway tested positive for marijuana, and marijuana metabolites, according to a Metro news release. Her system also showed 23.6 nanograms per milliliter of marijuana metabolites while the state’s limit for that is 5-nanogram, AP reported. She’s accused of having her 3-year-old daughter with her in the auto that struck and killed an Arizona woman and injured more than 35 pedestrians outside the Planet Hollywood and Paris Las Vegas resorts.
Days later at her first court hearing, attorneys for Holloway said she was “heartbroken” by what happened.
Lakeisha Holloway is charged with one count of murder with a deadly weapon, child abuse, and leaving the scene of an accident. The child was placed into custody of Clark County child protective services.
Holloway is jailed on suicide watch pending a January 20 court date.
Jessica Valenzuela was trapped under the sedan for at least 200 yards as pedestrians ran alongside, banging on the auto and trying to get Holloway to stop, the source said.
Blood samples were taken from Holloway, and police initially said that though she did not demonstrate signs of being under the influence of alcohol when she was arrested, she may have been on stimulants. She has not been asked to make a plea yet, but Abood and Scott Coffee, another court-appointed attorney, said that she is expected to plead not guilty.
Authorities have not offered a motive for Holloway’s alleged actions, which left one person dead and 37 injured.
Prosecutors say they expect to file additional charges as police continue to interview witnesses, possibly including attempted murder.
