Man City face Watford in search of first Premier League away win
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has claimed that his side are in a “good position” at the halfway stage of the Premier League season.
City are third in the Barclays Premier League after 19 games, three points behind leaders Arsenal.
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that the club is not really looking to bring in any new faces during the transfer window, explaining that he already feels well equipped with the squad now at his disposal. “We are going to win the title if we don’t depend on just one player”, he said. “I hope we are going to complete a very good second part to the season”, he said.
Quique Sanchez Flores, Watford: “In the dressing room it is no surprise to us when we win consecutive matches so that shows the mentality of the team changes a lot”.
But the end of December was too soon to be talking about winning the title, Pellegrini said, adding: “At the end of January and the first week of February, maybe”.
“We started the season strongly, but we’ve not been great over the last 12 games or so”.
Manchester City is preparing for their match against Watford on Saturday.
That is still a fearsome threesome, but Watford have scored in every single Premier League game since a 3-0 slip-up against Arsenal in October – and, during that run, they have slaughtered Liverpool and held Chelsea to a 2-2 draw.
Sky Sports detailed the average league position of each team’s remaining opponents away from home, and in comparison to Arsenal and Leicester City, the two sides above City in the table, the Blues have a much more favourable set of fixtures. Having slipped back to within two places of the drop zone, they will be keen to move further clear of danger with a win here, and as they have proved in recent games with some high-profile successes, that is not out of the question.
Leicester have no new injury concerns and could stick with the same that drew 0-0 draw with Manchester City on Tuesday, with Jamie Vardy now fully recovered from a virus which he has suffered from over the last week. I think it’s better to play him for less minutes but with more intensity.
“For me, it is important to think about Bournemouth and what we can do for the next month”.
