‘Star Wars’ Boba Fett voice actor Jason Wingreen dead at 95
Jason Wingreen, best known for voicing Boba Fett in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back as well as playing Harry the bartender in All In The Family, has died, according to his family.
BroadwayWorld is cheerless to report in that actor Jason Wingreen, 95, died at his home in L.A., Calif., on Christmas Day, 2015.
Wingreen was a frequent television guest star, appearing in multiple episodes each of The Untouchables, The Twilight Zone, The Fugitive, The FBI and Ironside.
“I think the actual work, aside from the hellos and goodbyes and all that, could have been no more than 10 minutes”, Wingreen, who originally auditioned to be the voice of Yoda once said of the role, according to Rolling Stone. However, it was his small role as the cult villain Boba Fett, the bounty hunter who captures Han Solo in The Empire Strikes Back, that many will remember him for. He tells the Classic TV History blog, “I loved it. It was wonderful … allowed me to retire, let me put it that way”. Wingreen did not initially receive credit for his role, and it was only revealed in 2000 that he was the voice of Boba Fett. While at Brooklyn College, he took part within the Varsity Dramatic Society. He also was one of the founders of the NYC-based Circle in the Square theater company, and began his acting career on Broadway, starring in two 1954 shows – The Girl on the Via Flaminia and Fragile Fox. His film credits include The Bravados, Marlowe, The Terminal Man, and Oh, God! The actor’s son confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter.
