Palestinian dies of wounds from West Bank clashes: ministry
A spokesperson representing Hebron families whose relatives have been killed by Israeli forces, Raed al-Atrash, told Ma’an that 14 of the bodies would be buried in the city’s Al-Shuhada (Martyrs) Cemetery in the al-Sheikh quarter after funeral prayers are performed. Israel on Sunday indicted two Jewish extremists suspected in the attack, a case that has been unsolved for months and helped fuel the current wave of Israeli-Palestinian violence.
Since a wave of violence erupted at the start of October, 138 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces, according to an AFP count, most while carrying out attacks on Israelis.
Preparations were underway in the occupied West Bank city of Hebron Saturday morning for the burial of 17 bodies of Palestinians returned by Israeli authorities the night before.
The army said 23 bodies were handed over on Friday. The so-called “price tag” attacks seek to exact a cost for Israeli steps seen as favoring the Palestinians.
The firebombing of the Palestinian family’s home in the West Bank killed a toddler and his parents. She was then shot and killed.
The attack was the latest in three months of assaults by Palestinians on Israelis, as well as clashes between Palestinian youths and Israeli soldiers.
Taha Qatanani, 44, said doctors told him the body of his 16-year-old daughter Ashraqat was frozen to a degree that they needed to wait at least two days for the autopsy. That figure does not include the two Israelis killed Friday by an Arab man in a shooting attack on a Tel Aviv restaurant, as the motive for the attack hasn’t officially been determined yet.
Forces reportedly used rubber-coated steel bullets and tear gas against mourners at the entrance of Beit Ummar, as well as in Bab al-Zawyeh area, shooting and injuring 12 with rubber bullets in Beit Ummar, and causing the suffocation of dozens others in both clashes.
