Raiders Host Chargers in Possible Oakland Farewell

The Raiders want a new home that can make them more money, and the only plan on the table right now is a joint project with the San Diego Chargers in the Los Angeles suburb of Carson.

On a rainy Christmas Eve, the puddle behind Jake Frazier’s four-wheeled shrine to the Oakland Raiders looked deeper than most.

“This may be my last game at the Coliseum, but just know I’ll never leave you”, Woodson said.

Woodson led the crowd in a “Raaaaiders” chant immediately after the game, as the Chargers trudged from the field following a frustratingly familiar defeat.

“When we got the three points, coach (Jack) Del Rio came up to me and said, ‘Hey, the defense will take care of it. That was a game winning drive, ‘” Carr said. The Raiders have not done well as a home favorite, but I think they cover in this one.

The Raiders (6-8) and Chargers (4-10), along with the St. Louis Rams, are looking at moving to Los Angeles as early as next season, Oakland not having a new stadium lease in place for 2016.

And that was the fact that could not be ignored.

Woodson has 65 career interceptions, tops among active players and tied for fifth in National Football League history. Don’t let the final score fool you as this was not a competitive game with the Raiders racing to a 31-point lead.

Then Woodson made his way off the field for the last time, flashed the “O” sign for Oakland as he headed into the tunnel, and he was gone. He’s also already hit the 30 he is in the offense – and in his numbers, which are up nearly across the board.

“Big plays, you get momentum”, Mayowa said.

“I guess it had to end like that, right?”

“It’s been an incredible career man”, Woodson said Monday night.

“It’s unfair for them to even broach that, make it a game of chicken between Dean and I”, said Davis.

“But that’s the way it goes sometimes”. With two games remaining against AFC East rivals New England and Buffalo, the Jets are essentially in a must-win situation to try to move ahead of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs for one of the AFC’s two wildcard spots. It showed that this is a struggle and that none of this is going to come easily.

If there was any chance the Panthers were going to rest their starters after last Sunday’s win over the Giants, it was eliminated after the Cardinals whipped the Eagles on Sunday night.

There are a few exciting players in this game including Philip Rivers, Amari Cooper, Khalil Mack and Derek Carr.

The true storybook ending wasn’t to be, but the Raiders kicked a field goal and defense held strong in a 23-20 victory over the Chargers.

NOTES: Chargers starting WR Stevie Johnson (hip) was inactive for the second consecutive game. After Woodson lost 3 yards on a reverse when San Diego covered a possible pass to Carr in the end zone, Janikowski hit the go-ahead field goal.
