Van Gaal unsure about Man United support
Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has insisted that his old club were “painful to watch” in their 2-0 loss to Stoke City on Saturday. United! United!’ The players and management looked up and applauded back.
Although there is no official confirmation yet, van Gaal’s time as United boss certainly seems to be hanging by a thread.
United suffered their fourth successive defeat in all competition on Saturday when they were beaten by Stoke in the Premier League – a result that extended their winless run to seven games. They saw a man under intense pressure and, adopting a tactic used by Sir Alex Ferguson, he helped create a siege mentality against “the media”. But, despite all the high hopes, the Dutchman has failed as the manager of England’s most successful club. From the first whistle, Stoke City showed hunger, desire, and most importantly, confidence.
They will support their team, their club and whoever wears their colours, even if what they’re seeing isn’t acceptable.
“Maybe that worked temporarily and he got a few more fans behind him but ultimately United are a mess on the pitch”.
Midfielder Michael Carrick said of United’s form: “It’s a terrible run, a awful feeling”.
United fought for every possession and was getting shots on goal in the final 15 minutes but it wasn’t enough as the Potters take the game 2-0. We did not play our way of football. “We need a victory and that is very important”.
Speaking to Sky Sports immediately after the match, Van Gaal said: “My thoughts are that we don’t dare to play football in first half”. Van Gaal said. “You will have to wait and see”. As a club and as a group of players and as a staff, as a manager, everyone together, we have to stick together.
“The circumstances were hard”.
But if United slip to another defeat, van Gaal is expected to leave of his own accord, after becoming disillusioned with his own players, and the pressure and criticism from the British press. “That’s the question”, Van Gaal said.
In the 19th minute a disastrous back pass by Memphis Depay let’s in Glen Johnson to cross for the former Barcelona winger Bojan and he puts the ball into the empty net to make it 1 nil Stoke.
“It’s a feather in our cap”.
“There’s a lot of thinking that goes into which team you pick as a manager and you go with the one that you think will win the game”. A top ten position is what we want.
“He’s very young. When he was in Holland he was one of the star players, at a very young age”, said Hiddink.
