Oregon Ducks vs TCU Horned Frogs Football Game 2016 Overtime
‘I can assure you that I have because it took away the incredible honor and privilege it was to wear a TCU jersey’. But he was no doubt hoping to give National Football League scouts one final look at his skills as the 11th-ranked Horned Frogs wrapped up their season. TCU’s 31-point rally marked the largest bowl comeback in history.
TCU Horned Frogs quarterback Trevone Boykin (#2) during the Big 12 college football game between the TCU Horned Frogs and the Baylor Bears at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas.
“It was a fun experience just being able to go through that with my team”, Summers said. “They just never quit”. If they have the offense rolling, as usual, not TCU or any other team in the country is going to keep up.
“I was really proud of all the TCU fans that came down”.
Based on his strong performance against OU, Kohlhausen is expected to start in the Alamo Bowl. Kohlhausen nearly pulled TCU through, completing 5 of 11 passes with no interceptions for 122 yards and two TDs. “But he understands. It wasn’t even a conversation between him and I. It was one of those situations where he was there at curfew, and then I get a call early in the morning that he wasn’t at curfew”.
“I will never wear black again”, he said two hours later, doused in sweat and perhaps a celebratory Gatorade bath. “He showed me how to play like I did tonight”.
Kohlhausen started in place of TCU’s first-choice quarterback Trevone Boykin, who was suspended after a bar fight two days earlier.
Oregon QB Vernon Adams Jr., the nation’s top-rated passer, vs. TCU defense.
“Our guys believed until the end, they fought until the end”. “To end it this way is tough”.
Kohlhausen, who had seen only spot duty this season, struggled as OR ran circles around the Horned Frogs in the first half.
Backup Jeff Lockie took over after the injury and led the Ducks on their final scoring drive capped by a 47-yard field goal with 32 seconds left.
After Kohlhausen’s go-ahead run, his pass on a two-point conversion was incomplete. TCU was the second-best pass defense in the Big 12, allowing only 214 yards pass per game, and only 156 per game its last three games.
Kicker Aidan Schneider put OR ahead 41-38 with a 44-yard field goal to start the second overtime. But Tyson Coleman, the outside linebacker whose otherwise stellar pressure all game led to a forced fumble and punt, stayed with the running back on the option and Kohlhausen found an open lane to the end zone once turning the corner.
OR enjoyed laughably ideal first half but melted down on both sides of the ball after their starting quarterback, Vernon Adams, left the game for good due to injury. They finished with 413 yards on 61 (6.8 average) and 22 first downs in the second half and overtime. Freeman rushed for eight yards on the next play, pushing OR 17 yards from a score.
“It’s just one of those teams”, TCU head coach Gary Patterson said.
Noteworthy: Aaron Green led TCU in rushing during the regular season with 1,171 yards on 219 carries (5.3 average). OR (9-3), with top-rated FBS passer Adams and standout running back Royce Freeman, went from a slight underdog to a touchdown favorite after Boykin was suspended within hours after his arrest outside a bar near San Antonio’s famed River Walk around 2 a.m. Thursday.
