Everton v Tottenham Odds – Can Spurs continue their push for a Champions
Tottenham trailed Everton 1-0 heading into two minutes of added time in the first half on a blast from Aaron Lennon.
However, England global Dele Alli equalised before half-time after Tottenham’s rising star guided Toby Alderweireld’s floated cross past Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard.
Having come in for so much criticism for his team’s defensive frailties in recent weeks, Roberto Martinez had clearly set his side up to contain Tottenham in the early going and the visitors were in complete control for long spells in the first half.
Arouna Kone had a shot blocked as Everton looked to keep up the momentum, but Tottenham were soon threatening again and around the half-hour mark they rattled the goalframe again, Davies’ strike cracking against the bar.
As for Spurs, they started the match in fourth – two points above United and nine clear of Everton – and also made three changes following their 2-1 win over Watford, with Kyle Walker, Ben Davies and Christian Eriksen returning to the side.
But Lennon stunned them with a great half-volley to register his first goal of the season for Everton since his £4million move from White Hart Lane on transfer deadline day.
Gerard Deulofeu, recently introduced by Martinez as a substitute, then produced a unsafe delivery that Lukaku just failed to convert with his head at the far post.
John Stones and Ramiro Funes Mori were caught ball watching for Tottenham’s equaliser and Jagielka will provide the leadership Everton need.
Lukaku burst through in the dying seconds but put his shot into the stand, before Ross Barkley’s shot was saved by Lloris. As well as how both teams do when it comes to scoring goals and conceding. Spurs dropped six points behind first-place Arsenal.
Spurs, who had twice hit the woodwork in the opening period, drew deservedly level through a fine Dele Alli finish – his fourth league goal of this season.
Everton looked the more likely to find a victor but Spurs held out for a deserved point to extend their good record against the Merseyside club.
Because of Romelu Lukaku’s current presence in front of net, this will be a tough game for Spurs’ backline to contain one of the Premier League’s best strikers this season. It was fun – but I remember everyone was saying it was unfair because we were winning every game 6-0 or 7-0 and nobody wanted to play us!
