Sony Xperia Z2 and Z3 lines Android 5.1 update now rolling
Although details about the project remain unclear, various hints suggest that the company might be preparing to unveil a next generation operating system.
The software will be provided for the Xperia Z3, but not the Z3 Compact and at the end of the trial users will be able to restore their original software. Instead of simply applying themes to the overall look and feel of the software like Sony does, other players like HTC, LG, and Samsung have gone in for outright changes. A private beta-test is now available in Sweden, where Sony’s R&D office is located, which will feature on the next editions of Sony’s smartphones. Signs point to this new Android concept to ship out with Sony’s newest flagship expected soon if the betas go well!
The Xperia Z2 (D6502 and D6503 models) and the Xperia Z3 (D6653) are going to receive the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OTA update with firmware version 23.4.A.0.546.
Android 5.1 will also equip the likes of the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 with increased customisation options, better integration with Sony’s wearable devices including the Smartwatch 3, and improved camera options, including a faster and more accurate Superior Auto Mode.
Even though Sony has released the Android 5.1 Lollipop update, some carriers may delay its release, Phone Arena reported.
Sony now appears to be dissatisfied with the Xperia skin currently installed on its Android smartphones and tablets, and could be interested in developing a brand-new concept for Android devices under its brand.
As mentioned by Sony, the feedback that will be submitted by the testers will be used to improve its upcoming software. However, since it is already in its beta phase, this indicates that the project is moving forward and could come out in the near future.
