A 20-year-old student at the University of North Texas is in critical condition after a shooting early Friday.
It followed a New Year’s Eve party on Crisoforo Drive.
Witnesses told the paper she was shot in the head and had been the designated driver for her friends that night. Sara Mutschlechner, 20, was driving a group of friends home at around 2:00 am following a New Year’s Eve house party when the group got into an argument with a group of people driving a black SUV.
Someone in the SUV fired several shots when the vehicles reached the Elm & University intersection.
According to BuzzFeed News, Mutschlechner was a third year student at UNT who was part of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.
‘She is by far one of the most spirited, honest and fun-loving people I ever had the privilege to know.
“No one has to be here right now, but she is someone that just if you met her once, you’re standing here”, he said.
Investigators say the party was advertised via flyer on Facebook and they want anyone with photos or video to send contact Denton Police detective Eric Beckwith at 940-349-7974.
Denton police are still investigating the shooting incident.
Around 60 people were at the house party.
A candlelight vigil was held on the campus of UNT, where she was studying radio, television and film, on Saturday.
