ZTE Axon Watch brings gestures to the smartwatch party
In addition to unlocking the device, the Axon phone’s fingerprint scanner also offers support for NFC payments.
Therefore, as well as dazzling internal specifications ― 128GB of storage, a lightning quick processor and a better than HD 5.5-inch display-the Axon has a specially developed voice control system that can translate English, Japanese, Korean, Spanish and Thai as well as Mandarin and Cantonese. A week after launching the Axon, its first true flagship phone for the USA market, ZTE has taken the wraps off another version of the handset designed specifically for the Chinese market. ZTE has been bringing its phones over to the U.S. to middling success, but it’s not about to give up on that American dream, the Axon is proof of that.
CEO Adam Zeng said the smartphone launch marks a new development phase for ZTE as the company becomes more consumer-centric in the global market. Its China debut adds voice control functionality to the device. During the announcement of the Axon in China, ZTE had a few surprises to reveal.
The handset will be available in two color options, Ion Gold and Chromium Silver, for just 2,699 yuan, which is about $435 or €395. A ZTE Axon Mini version will also be made available in the near future.
The Axon Lux has a 5.5-inch display with a 2560 x 1440 resolution and has 4GB of RAM.
The ZTE Axon Watch doesn’t come with Google’s Android Wear, instead the device uses Tencent OS and it features a circular display. In terms of functions, the Axon Watch can be used for both fitness and health monitoring, and supports a range of other applications, from phone calls to messaging. The projector was previously launched in the United States under AT&T and Verizon.
The ZTE Axon Lux will be available for pre-order in China beginning July 21 for 3,888 yuan outright, which translates into $625 or €570.
