Brady rose – slowly – but the hits kept coming from the Miami Dolphins, who beat New England 20-10 Sunday and cost the Patriots the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs. After averaging 32.3 points and 412.4 yards over the undefeated start, New England has dipped to 26.4 and 334.2 over the 2-3 span. It was the failure to move the ball that made Belichick elect to kick off in overtime with hopes of playing the field-position game. He was just 12-21 throwing the football for only 134 yards.

New England has secured a first-round bye in the postseason, but now need a loss from the Denver Broncos to clinch the AFC’s top seed. The Dolphins had every right to be offended and that’s the way they played (“They think they can just run the ball on us all day in that formation” – Miami cornerback Brice McCain).

“Whoever we have to play, wherever we have to play them, whatever it is it is”.

The Patriots, mindful of the challenges to come to reach this season’s Super Bowl, rested several injured starters. “Bumps and bruises. Played a whole season, but just gotta play better”.

For the Dolphins coach Dan Campbell, with a banged up QB and OL it would make much more sense to work Miller harder this week especially after seeing what the Jets did to the Patriots defensive front seven last week running right at them.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick had little to say about his offense, which was held to 196 total yards. In addition, Tannehill produced a big 19-yard run on Miami’s game-winning drive, converting on a key third-down play.

Dolphins defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh rolled up Brady from behind, forcing the quarterback to bend backward to the point where his helmet was almost touching his cleat. Newly-acquired LaAdrian Waddle will likely start in his place despite a shoulder injury he suffered in the same game, but if Waddle is unable to go, look for Cameron Fleming to take his place. It was scored on a 2-yard run by Steven Jackson – his first TD since joining New England on Dec 22.

Brandon Bolden rushed nine times for 31 yards and caught both of his targets for five yards Week 17 against the Dolphins.

He completed 25 of 38 passes for 350 yards and two touchdowns.

Parker also caught a touchdown in the first half and has 106 yards overall in a productive end to his rookie season. The Dolphins listed nobody as out for Sunday’s game, but they did declare linebacker Jelani Jenkins and center Mike Pouncey doubtful due to an ankle injury.

The Pats tied it in the second quarter on Stephen Gostkowski’s 34-yard field goal.
