Carolina and Denver wrap up No. 1 seeds for playoffs
Seeding is still up for grabs for 11 playoff teams, so don’t expect to see many stars sitting on the sidelines on Sunday with so much at stake. Not so fast, Bills players, such as running back Boobie Dixon said that this game is their “Super Bowl” and you better believe that Buffalo will want to win this game in order to finish with a. 500 record and a season sweep of their division rival. Denver will remain home for the playoffs if it can beat San Diego.
The playoffs get going next Saturday with the wild card round matchups.
There’s no reason to think the Steelers won’t beat the Browns on Sunday, but the Jets have found something that’s working after reeling off five straight wins entering Week 17. The Houston Texans (vs. Jacksonville) will win the South if they win or if the Indianapolis Colts lose or if they win the strength of victory tiebreaker (if the Bengals, Patriots, New Orleans Saints, New York Jets or San Diego Chargers win or if Kansas City and the Cleveland Browns both win).
Titans (N/A) at Colts: The Colts need a lot of help to win the AFC South. First they need to beat the Titans and then hope that the Texans lose to the Jaguars. A Seattle loss makes the two-time defending NFC champs the lowest-seeded NFC playoff team. Carolina can wrap up the home field in the NFC with a victory over Tampa Bay, but a loss would give Arizona a chance at the No. 1 seed.
Denver’s victory finally settled the AFC playoff picture. In that scenario, Kansas City will go from playing on the road next week to hosting a playoff game. However, if Vikings can pull off an improbable win, the Seahawks stay at 6 seed. Pittsburgh will be the No. 6 seed and travel to the No. 3 seed.
The Packers (10-5) play host to the Vikings (10-5) Sunday night and the victor will be the No. 3 seed in the NFC while the loser could be the No. 6 seed if the Seahawks beat the Cardinals.
The Carolina Panthers and the Arizona Cardinals have earned first-round byes, the Washington Redskins have won the East, and the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, as well as the Seattle Seahawks are all playoff bound. Losing to Arizona would lock the Seahawks into the No. 6 spot and a matchup against the victor of the NFC North.
