Dolphins restructuring begins with general manager Dennis Hickey’s departure after 2 seasons
The lead candidate for Hickey’s job as general manager is Chris Grier, the director of college scouting.
Barring an impressive season by the Dolphins, it was believed Hickey could be on the outs.
The Miami Dolphins announced Saturday night they’ve agreed to part ways with general managerDennis Hickey, solidifying Mike Tannenbaum’s power atop the franchise’s football hierarchy. Tannenbaum has been with Miami for only one year and will be retained, but the Dolphins are likely to hire their ninth head coach since 2004. The move is part of an anticipated restructuring that will include a coaching search. Rather, a combination of poor coaching and poor execution has led to the Dolphins slipping to a 5-10 record and last place in the AFC East.
“I have been blessed to be the general manager of the Miami Dolphins for the last two seasons, and I want to thank Stephen Ross for giving me this opportunity”, Hickey said. Picked up by the Dolphins after a stint in personnel roles with the Buccaneers. “We talked about a number of different possibilities, but at the end we reached this agreement”, Tannenbaum said in the press release.
The Miami Dolphins parted ways with general manager Dennis Hickey on Saturday and will now be searching for a new GM and a coach in 2016. Interim head coach Dan Campbell is expected to be interviewed, but could ultimately be replaced by an outside voice. He had some hits in the draft, such as second-year players Jarvis Landry and Ja’Wuan James, but there also were various misses.
