Browns don’t know if Manziel made trip to Vegas
The Cleveland Browns sacked head coach Mike Pettine on Sunday, hours after they wrapped up another disappointing National Football League season with a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Browns have lost 18 of their last 21 games and Pettine finished with a record of 10-22.
“We greatly appreciate Ray and Mike’s dedication and hard work while with the Cleveland Browns”, Haslam said.
Haslam said that any decision on Manziel’s future with the team would be made by executive vice president Sashi Brown and the team’s new general manager. We’ll talk as we’re headed to the offseason about getting addressed to make sure that, I said this before, we want to make sure that all of our places are grounded or in good shape as people first, players second.
In order to achieve that, Haslam nearly has to overpay the team’s next head coach and general manger. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport tweeted that Haslam fired Farmer and Pettine by e-mail. Should the Cowboys take a chance on Johnny Manziel if he becomes available?
Farmer was hired as the team’s general manager in February 2014.
The 2015-2016 season ends with more losses.
The Cleveland Browns are “so done” with Johnny Manziel after the quarterback missed a mandatory meeting with team doctors, according to MMQB’s Peter King.
Farmer, too, was suspended for the first four games this season for texting to the sideline during 2014 games. He appeared in nine games this season, throwing for seven touchdowns while turning the ball over a total of 11 times (five interceptions, six fumbles) and finishing with a quarterback rating of 79.4.
Nose tackle Danny Shelton, the 12th pick, started 15 games but did little to improve the bad run defense, which entered the game ranked 32nd.
Once Haslam decides on who will take over for Pettine and Farmer, as long they can continue to progress, patience must be implemented.
The Browns had two first-round draft picks that year, taking Oklahoma State cornerback Justin Gilbert eighth overall before trading back into the first round to select Manziel with the 22nd pick.
The writing has been on the wall for some time, and the Cleveland Browns made it official on Sunday.
But, as for King’s report that Manziel wants to be a Cowboy, this isn’t necessarily new news – we’ve heard rumors of Manziel landing in Dallas as recent as last month, and it was pretty clear that Jones was seriously considering drafting him in 2014 before the opted for offensive lineman Zack Martin.
To be fair, I’m probably at my lowest point right now when it comes to our beloved Cleveland Browns Organization. For a variety of reasons, few pegged the Browns as a playoff contender.
