Belichick: ‘Disappointing’ Eagles didn’t give Kelly more time

Though it was pretty unexpected, it seems as though it may have been warranted, as several Eagles players seem to be less than broken up about Kelly’s dismissal. Kelly would replace McCoy with 2014’s leading rusher DeMarco Murray and the injury-prone Ryan Matthews.

Bill Belichick didn’t hide his feelings when asked about coaching changes that are handed down across the National Football League at this time of year.

“Chip Kelly to me is a really good football coach”, Belichick told New England reporters.

But Kelly’s firing isn’t really a surprise to many, especially when one looks at the struggles the team faced this year.

“You know you’re going to get a great offensive team out of him”, said wide receiver Bralon Addison, who played in Kelly’s blur offense as a freshman.

Belichick also gave a sideways shot at those who felt Kelly’s personnel moves were not the right ones.

“Chip is a great coach, ” Belichick said Thursday. He does a great job. “I’d say a lot of the players that were on the Eagles that are no longer on the Eagles probably aren’t doing too much for anybody else, either”. Coach Pat Shurmer will be interim head coach for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants.

Lurie said he cut Kelly loose a week before the season ends to benefit the team and his former coach.

Lurie spoke highly of Kelly as a coach after the chairman and CEO’s decision was announced Tuesday evening. “You always want anybody that has been a part of this program to have success later on”. All in all, I know he cared about the players but I don’t think he had the best way to go about things. There’s no denying it, but there were also many who claimed they had a good relationship with and even liked the guy. Now I can start enjoying watching the Eagles games again, I found myself at times rooting against them because of Chip.

The Jacksonville Jaguars, meanwhile, said they planned to retain head coach Gus Bradley for at least one more season. I just went to practice once this year, twice the year before and once the year before, so I’m no authority on it. But I was fascinated by how they practiced football and I learned a lot by watching that.

Although the Ducks are focused on preparing for Saturday’s Alamo Bowl against TCU, word spread quickly about Kelly being fired two years after winning the NFC East and five days before the Eagles’ last game of the season.

“(The team needs) a guy that if issues arise, you’re able to talk to, communicate and solve the problem, instead of maybe being a one-way guy that’s just set in his ways”, Johnson said.
