Chiefs down Raiders for 10th win in a row

The Kansas City Chiefs sealed up a post-season berth with a win over the Browns last week, but still have the potential to win the AFC West if they win and the Broncos lose. A Denver loss and a Chiefs victory would have given them the division title and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. But San Diego Mayor Kevin Falconer and County Commissioner Ron Roberts plan to build a $1.1 billion dollar facility in San Diego.

One of the best rivalries in the National Football League will take place today, and it carries some playoff implications.

It was the final game of Charles Woodson’s sterling 18-year career, and came in the same stadium where Oakland’s star defensive back made his debut.

In most cities in nearly any season, Sunday would represent a merciful conclusion to a disappointing campaign.

Kansas City clinched a wild-card spot with a 17-13 win over Cleveland in Week 16 for the ninth consecutive win. Woodson closed out his career with seven tackles against the Chiefs.

“It didn’t end like you wanted it to end”, Woodson said, “but the great thing about the team is they fought all the way to the end”. “To feel like that on a Sunday, I knew it was time”.

“It’s very simple for me”, Woodson said.

From having strong hope that this team could be a legitimate playoff contender to dropping to a 1-5 record to winning nine straight games and making it to the playoffs, this has been a season to remember. After that, then they can look at the Bills vs Jets game. He has endured in a game that sees the “lucky” players last maybe four years. His 7 touchdown receptions are 7 more than Smith threw to any receiver all last season.

The Raiders scored on their first drive of the second quarter when kicker Sebastian Janikowski hit a 29-yard field goal to make it 14-3.

NOTES: Chiefs C Mitch Morse left the game late in the fourth quarter with a concussion. Unfortunately for the Raiders defense, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid scripted a ideal opening drive. After coming close to the previous two punts, the Chiefs special teams came bursting through to block Marquette King’s punt and get the safety.

“We accomplished a lot of things”, first-year coach Jack Del Rio said. “In the history of the league if you go on the road and have a punt blocked it probably leads to a poor record”. The shenanigans didn’t result in a flag as the Raiders trailed with 5:35 on the clock and a crucial drive continuing, but could have if the zebra-clad men on the field weren’t in the best of moods.

In what could have been the Raiders’ final game in Oakland, quarterback Derek Carr finished the day completing 23 of 38 passes for 204 yards, one interception and one touchdown.

The Chiefs raced to a 14-0 lead on the Raiders on a touchdown pass from Alex Smith to Jeremy Maclin and short TD plunge by Spencer Ware.

Carr believes finishing the season with a. 500 record would be a considerable accomplishment.
