Obama starts 2016 with a fight over gun control
President Barack Obama is expected to announce new gun control curbs this week, but he will have to decide whether to take bold action that would likely spark a major legal challenge from opponents or a more cautious route that may be less effective, legal experts said. They also believe that plan may include the ban of sales of guns to suspects on the “no-fly” list.
Some dealers at the show felt that background checks at gun shows should be performed.

In a succinct message to gun rights advocates, Obama made clear his intent to put some distance between Congress and the powerful gun lobby by wresting control of the issue himself. The president has frequently expressed frustration at Congress’s failure to pass tougher gun-control measures, even after some of the worst mass shootings in the nation’s history.
As of now the president has spent much of his time speaking about ISIS and global terrorism, so hopefully his speech will really address guns on a more domestic level.
Others weren’t as politically motivated to make the trip to the gun show.
“I would prefer that we could have bipartisan support, but the truth is Republicans aren’t interested in doing anything on gun safety”, Sanders said. “I will take on that fight”.
Ted Alcorn, research director for gun control advocacy group Everytown, said Everytown officials met with Obama in December to make recommendations for executive action.
“The president is a petulant child”, GOP candidate New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie told “Fox News Sunday”. They do not want guns to fall in the wrong hands. “But this is going to be another illegal executive action which I’m sure will be rejected by the courts”.
Donald Trump vowed Saturday in MS to “unsign” anything Obama implements.
Top among them was a regulation to clarify when gun sellers need a federal firearms license, he said.
