Spirited Leicester hold Man City to goalless PL draw
Leicester and Manchester City play on the 19th matchday of the English Premier League on December 29, 2015.
Premier League’s hot property, Jamie Vardy showed that he is still a human being when he blew away a shot over goal in the first half.
And former Birmingham City midfielder Savage feels that the north London side will eventually leapfrog Ranieri’s high-flying Foxes in the coming months.
Against all expectation they enter 2016 joint-top of the table, as they prepare for their next encounter against Bournemouth on January 2, whilst Manchester City will seek a much needed away victory against Watford. Leicester is the second with 39 points. “I think there are a good few of us who need some days’ recovery now after this period and, once we’ve done that, we can prepare for Saturday and come back to Old Trafford with the same energy and enthusiasm to keep driving and get that win”.
Ranieri then challenged his players to pick up even more points in the second half of the season than they managed during the first.
“We can continue at this level but one thing is to not be relegated and one thing is to be at the top of the league”.
“We set out to dominate the ball and try to frustrate them”, he added.
The Christmas period often deadens any pretensions a small team has of contending for the Premier League title but Leicester has taken seven points from a possible 12.
Vardy’s team-mate Riyad Mahrez has also been superb, but for me Vardy is the pick for best player. It was hard but we played well, we created some chances. He partners in central midfield with WBA’s Darren Fletcher who scored the only goal worthy of three points against Newcastle. But I think everyone on the other side – the touchline side – can see it’s a clear touch on the ball.
“When you have a chance to score and didn’t score that is not good but we reacted very well”.
Indeed, they have picked up just as many points away from home as they have in front of their own fans this season, winning the same number of games on the road as the likes of Manchester City and Everton.
“I saw in the second half we can do something better”.
He said: “I will not sell anyone, everybody will stay and I’ll give another two or three gifts to (coach) Vincenzo Montella, as he deserves it. We have been following Kramaric for a year now”.
