Hornets bringing ex-Tar Heels star Tyler Hansbrough back to Carolina
He initially played four seasons for the Indiana Pacers, then spent the past two with the Toronto Raptors.
Toronto Raptors Tyler Hansbrough, left, drives into Minnesota Timberwolves Robbie Hummel in the second half of an National Basteball Association basketball game, Wednesday, April 1, 2015, in Minneapolis. Although Hansbrough has had a couple of decent seasons in the National Basteball Association he has never lived up to his college reputation.
In his career, Hansbrough has been worth about seven points a game at about eighteen minutes a game.
Hansbrough, 29, was a first-round pick of the Pacers (13th overall) in 2009 after leading the Tar Heels to a national championship that spring.
Looking at the projected starting front-court, the Hornets are going to have both Al Jefferson and Cody Zeller in the lineup.
The Hornets have a variety of options at power forward even after trading Noah Vonleh (along with Gerald Henderson) to the Portland Trail Blazers in a deal that acquired shooting guard-small forward Nicolas Batum.
After a quick glance at the roster it appears Hansbrough might be the fifth best big man on the Hornets. It was Henderson who bloodied Hansbrough’s nose with a hard foul during a UNC-Duke game in 2007. A decline in playing time for the fifth straight year seems like the most reasonable outcome for the former Tar Heel.
