CNN to host Obama town hall on guns in America
President Obama will hold a Town Hall meeting on Thursday, January 7, at George Mason University to talk about the problem. The president will take questions from the audience at the event moderated by CNN’s Anderson Cooper. A few months ago, Obama tasked a White House team with identifying actions that he can take regarding gun violence, potentially bypassing a Congress which has proven repeatedly reluctant to take action.
The New York Times reported that Obama will be meeting with Attorney General Loretta Lynch tomorrow in order to discuss what actions he is constitutionally permitted to take to curb gun violence.
Plans for the action are not complete, and unforeseen circumstances could delay an announcement.
“President Obama has been a lawless president in his use of executive orders, whether those executive orders are around immigration or whether those executive orders are around gun control“, the GOP presidential hopeful said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union”. But advocacy groups say many sellers are now exempt from having to register, increasing the chance of sales to customers prohibited by law from purchasing a gun.
Gun purchases through these means allow buyers to avoid the background check required when a buyer makes a purchase through a Federal Firearms Licensed gun dealer. “We’re not changing the Second Amendment”. She survived, has since left Congress and is now an advocate for stricter gun laws. Obama addressed the issue in his weekly radio address. “The rest of us are going to have to be just as passionate and well-organized in our defense of our kids”. It is a full fledged assault on the Second Amendment.
“The president is a petulant child”, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie told “Fox News Sunday”.
We are also imploring President Obama to use his full legal authority to expand life-saving Brady background checks.
In the meantime, Obama will continue to enact executive orders which will no have no more effect in stopping gun violence than any legislation which Congress may pass. The only people who will be punished are law abiding gun owners who would never entertain the idea of harming a soul unless their life or that of their family was imminently threatened.
Democrat Hillary Clinton, who has already proposed an executive action to close the gun show loophole, cheered Obama’s plans.
